Today’s Tubespiration Example: The Piccadilly Line

What we now call the Piccadilly Line was originally the Great Northern, Piccadilly and Brompton Railway opened in 1906.
Extensions eventually leading to Hounslow West, Uxbridge and Cockfosters were completed in 1933. More recently the Line was extended west from Hounslow West to Hatton Cross in 1975 and now connects Heathrow Terminals 1, 2, 3 4 and finally to the new Heathrow Terminal 5 in 2008, now covering some 44 miles.
From its original long and cumbersome title it was distilled down to be named after its middle
