Today’s Tubespiration Example: Bank/Monument

The Bank and Monument are two separate stations but thanks to a labyrinth of underground subway connections can easily be made.

The stations have been linked as an interchange since 1933 and is one of busiest points in the Underground network.

The high property costs in the City, along with the close presence of the Royal Exchange, the Bank of England, and Mansion House, resulted in the station being built entirely underground.

The City of London Corporation granted permission for the station to be sited beneath the busy road junctions with the condition for public subways being incorporated into the scheme.

• What ways can you avoid unnecessary expense?
• What can you hide out of view?
